Throughout the month of June, the Diocese of Baton Rouge Summer Feeding Program helped ensure that children across eight parishes had access to nutritious meals while school was out. The program made an extra effort to serve children in rural communities. Over the course of the month, they provided 321,286 meals to children.

To make meals convenient and accessible for families, meals were prepared, frozen, and carefully packed into meal boxes. Each box included breakfast and lunch for seven days, along with a gallon of milk.

At the heart of the Diocese of Baton Rouge’s Summer Feeding Program was a simple but important goal: making sure children have access to nutritious meals when they need them. By reaching families in rural areas, they were able to help bridge the gap that can occur during the summer months when children no longer have access to meals provided during the school day.

Thank you to the Diocese of Baton Rouge Child Nutrition team, community partners, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this program possible.
