Eat Right! Bite by Bite
2/27/2020
National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, we invite the Louisiana Child Nutrition Community to help our students, teachers, staff members, parents and families focus on the importance of making informed food choice and developing sound eating and physical activity habits! Let’s start with breakfast!
March 2 - 6 is National School Breakfast Week! National School Breakfast Week is a week-long celebration of the national School Breakfast Program, permanently established in 1975 by an act of Congress. Schools across the country celebrate with special menu items, events and student activities. The #NSBW2020 theme is "School Breakfast: Out of this World," which is sure to captivate students and stakeholders with how school breakfast programs are blasting off into new territory!
Studies show that children who eat school breakfast are more likely to:
Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
Score higher on standardized tests
Have better concentration and memory
Be more alert and maintain a healthy weight
The National School Breakfast Program also serves more than 14 million children every school day - that’s a crowd of cosmic proportions!
Did you know? Many school districts in Louisiana publish their breakfast menus online? Here are a few examples from districts in our state:
Help Louisiana Fit Kids showcase how your school community makes "School Breakfast Out of this World!" during National Nutrition Month. Send us photos and stories about what is being done in your district and in your schools. Include your school name and a brief description of events, activities, special menu items etc. We will highlight your stories and info on the Louisiana Fit Kids website, on Twitter @LAFitKids and on Facebook @louisianafitkids.
