Now Accepting Applications for the Louisiana Festival of Flavors Project Sub-Grant

With over 400 festivals each year, it’s easy to see why Louisiana is often called the Festival Capital of America. Just about every crop harvested, indigenous dish, and unique style of music is celebrated. The Louisiana Department of Education will conduct the Louisiana Festival of Flavors standardized recipe project, designed to engage regional school nutrition leadership in the development of school meal recipes using local foods and to engage students in the vast cuisine options and healthy food choices available in the state through taste testing and nutrition education.

The goal of the Louisiana Festival of Flavors (LFF) project is to develop and submit 16 standardized recipes to the USDA. Eight (8) sub-grantees will be selected for the Louisiana Festival of Flavors project. Each sub-grantee will develop two (2) new recipes, produce and serve the recipes as part of a reimbursable school meal service, conduct taste tests, promote the new recipes to the school community and implement two nutrition education or food literacy activities. For more information, read about the 2021 USDA Team Nutrition Training Grant for School Meal Recipe Development.

Public school districts, charter schools, private schools, parochial schools and residential childcare institutions which are school food authorities (SFAs) that participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP) in the state of Louisiana are eligible to apply for a Louisiana Festival of Flavors Project sub-grant.

Each sub-grant awardee will receive $21,000.

Sub-grantee applications will be reviewed by a grant selection team using a scoring rubric. Each applicant will receive a score from 0 - 100 points. All applicants are not guaranteed an award. Only complete applications will be considered.

Important Dates:

The application deadline is Friday, January 7th at 11:59pm.
Awardees will be announced via e-mail the first week of February 2022.
